I am hoping to create a toroidal coordinate system to help visualize/output some data for a FE model of a boiler-tube elbow. I have used ANSYS in the past, and know how to create a use a toroidal coordinate system in ANSYS. However, I have yet to figure out how to do the same in ABAQUS. I have searched in TFM, and the only reference to a toroidal coordinate system that I can find is in the topic of "mapping a set of nodes from one coordinate system to another".

So, is it possible to create a toroidal coordinate system in CAE, and, if so, how?

I do not think it is possible to create a toroidal system in CAE.

You probably need to write some code to transform the result fields...or you can try to assign material orientations before running the analysis.
