Trace Dependents

I have something that occurred in Excel that has never happened to me before. I went to Tools --> Formula Auditing --> Trace Dependents to see if any cells referenced cell E24 in my spreadsheet. A box popped up that said "The Trace Dependents command found no formulas that refer to the active cell."

Based on this message, I removed the value in cell E24 since I didn't need it anymore. When I did that, a bunch of cells suddenly changed. Sure enough, I looked and they all referenced cell E24.

Why did I get the message box that I did when there were obviously cells in my spreadsheet that referenced cell E24?

That depends on the formula in the dependent cells. I don't think, for example, that Trace Dependents can track =INDIRECT() function evaluations.

The formula in the dependent cells was just E24 times another cell. For whatever reason, it is working fine this morning. Weird, but problem solved, I guess.
