Dear all,

I am looking for suitable training courses designed to develop ones' career within a P21J EASA approved department.

I came across quite a good number of available courses (from Airbus, Boeing, Lufthansa), however I wish to know the opinion of others (senior design engineers, CVE's, HoD's, Airworthiness Managers, professors etc..)

Particularly interested in:
- Structures (assessment, hand-written calculation/FEA & report writing)
- Cabin Safety Training
- Avionics
- Fire Testing on materials
- Pursuing career development to become a CVE, HoD, HoOoA, etc
- Aviation English
- Aviation Law, Legislation etc
- Aircraft familiarisation/ type rating etc

What are your thoughts on this matter?

Bst Regards,

Afarr

Taking courses that will improve your job skills is normally a good thing. But unless you also put those new skills to work in your job, you will quickly forget what you learned.

In my experience, your employer will place a far greater value on your demonstrated job skills than on just your education/training credentials. Rather than spend time taking many courses you will not put to use in your current job, take only those courses that you will actually use in your job and gain lots of work experience to expand your knowledge in those areas. Focus on becoming an expert in some skill critical to your employer's business operation. Once you become a critical part of the business, you will be in a strong negotiation position when it comes to salary/compensation.

I'd steer clear of a type rating for the sake of an engineering career. Much of the content will be very interesting, but not as applicable as most of the other options you mentioned.

Just my opinion. It probably wouldn't go into the depth needed on systems.

Thank you both for your input, it gives another perspective for the search of training/courses.

From your experience & knowledge, can you recommend training providers in view of the original thread?

There are lots of companies that provide training and certification in all of the areas you noted, if you are willing to pay a significant price for the training. On the other hand, you can likely get the training and certification for free if your employer is convinced it will make you a more valuable asset to the company.

Yep, my intention is to find adequate training that is beneficial personally/career wise & propose it to management.

I thought maybe someone out there can narrow the options or provide advice.

Afarr ... What equipment are you generally working on? It can make a big difference in the price depending on the airframes, engines, etc.

Also, what level of experience do you currently have (years, certifications, etc)?

Both of those might help narrow down some ideas from this community.

Best

@BrianPilot....thanks for replying back.

I am a graduate in mechanical engineering having 2years experience in the aero industry. I am involved in developing design data (SB, dwgs using ACAD, ICA, certificate docs... etc...) to various client/operator requests. Mainly we work on projects that are for CS-23 & CS-25 type aircraft such as Airbus (A319, A320,A330), Boeing (727, 737-700), Beechcraft (B1900,B200), Piper, EA300, ATR72 etc.

I am interested to learn more about cabin safety & interiors, structures assessments - to support the design & certification process of the mods.

The design department is quite young and lacks the ''older'' expertees/experience hence some of the assesments are sub-contracted. I do realise that specialised training must be given/attended to attain a certain level of expertees in a niche area followed by continuous OJT.

Hope this helps,

Rgrds,

Afarr
