Hi Edgers

I'm about to welcome a new computer and I would like to regroup all the tips and tricks to have a smooth transfer from my old computer to the new one.

I'm aware about the reports file contained here C:\Program Files\Solid Edge V20\Template\Reports. That I should copy to keep the hole settings, bom settings, etc.

What else should I know about? With your feedback I could also write a FAQ about this or maybe put it in the Solid Edge Wiki
Also I don't know if it's a good idea to use the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" In windows XP pro as described here
Thanks for the input

Patrick

It's going to vary based on how you have things set up to some extent. For us so long as we set "Solid Edge Admin" to the correct network file under Tools, Options, File Locations Tab, this sets almost everything up for us.

We have to manually copy across draftlist & draftcallout but that's about it. We also have to select a few settings like text on buttons, sketch relationship colors, indicate underconstrained sketches etc.

If you have custom toolbars, you can keep those also. I learned this from a guru in Teamcenter from Siemens. I was tired of loosing them!

Go to "Start > Run" type in "regedit".
Then go to the "??_CURRENT_USER" & expand, then go to "Software" & expand, "Unigraphic Solutions" & expand, "Solid Edge" & expand. Right click on "Version X" and pick "export", then name the file and save.

Keep this file, then after you install Solid edge on the new computer, find this file "x.reg" and double click it and that is it. Toolbars and settings are magically still there! I had to do this on my computer after they wiped my profile off. It works and it is a life saver.

Hope this helps anyone that uses custom toolbars!

Do you know if it keeps the keyboard shortcuts also?

Is it possible?

Thanks

Patrick

Pat,

yes, they are stored anywhere below the registry key. But be on your
guard: the SE registry entry contains a lot of pathes, so when
the file structure/drive letter assignment is not the same
on the new PC strange things may happen.
