Transformer Class ONS/ONP/OFP 1

Can someone please tell me what these stand for:

ONS, ONP OFP

They come from a Tosiba 10MVA XFMR nameplace confirming to American Standard C57.12-1965.


I did a google search and an IEEE search. I also looked in the T&D, as well as C57.12-1986 & 2006 to no avail.

Could the P refer to Pump for forced oil cooling?

I'm guessing:

ONS = Oil, Natural, Static - (No fans, just natural convection)
ONP = Oil, Natual, Pumped- (No fans, but forced oil flow)

OFP = Oil, Fans, Pumped - (Fans and Forced Oil )

But guessing at acronyms can lead to problems.

This was my assumption:
ONS, Oil natural, self
ONP Oil natural, pumped
OFP Oil Fan, pumped

Yeah you are right, guessing can lead to problems, which is always why I like to have a reference doc.

On the high note, for something like I say we are right.

Make a calculated guess: if there is a different MVA rating for each, then I'd say your on the right track -- if so, the lowest MVA rating should be for the ONS, middle for ONP, and the highest for OFP.. also, check the transformer for having both fans and pumps...

Indeed, if only I could walk up to it and take a look. All I got is a nameplate photo.

All well... I wrote those assumptions down on the SLD, and finished the work.
