Hi,

I'm working on a model of inclined cable, consisting of LINK 180 element in transient analysis under the effect of its own weight only. I added an imaginary damper to damp the oscillation to reduce numerical error. The model works correctly as long as the "TENSION ONLY" KEYOPT in LINK 180 isn't activated, once I activate "TENSION ONLY", the solution never converges.
The APDL code is attached Link

Thanks a lot for help!

Try to turn the prestress effect on "pstres,on". You also need to open geometry nonlinear on.

NLGEOM is ON, and I tried this prestress effect and nothing changed. Do you have another suggestion?
Thanks a lot

I did some cable vibration analysis before and used the analysis section like this to get the initial cable condition under gravity load. Then I applied the loads required to do the analysis.
