Hello,
I'm looking for a trench drain specification. The trench drain will be primarily used in a heated pavement area, likely with concrete or asphalt paving. Can anyone please direct me to a good resource for examples? Thanks!

What will be the loading, flow rate, ground slope, and required slope? Will there be anything other than rain water going into the drain (oil water separator, chemical concerns)?

Loading: HS-20 traffic rating
Flow rate: Less than 1 cfs
Ground slope: varies from 2%-5%
Required slope: minimum 0.5%
Rain water only

If you talk to ACO, Zurn, Watts, or ABT, any of them would be happy to provide you with a spec on a trench drain that will meet your needs as you describe. The problem with 112.6.3 is that it was written around floor drains and the loading parameters are not condusive for testing long, narrow grates supported on two sides. EN1433 is a standard written specifically for trench drains and adresses the loadings. Under EN1433, you will want a class C grate and a frame on the channel. Be careful as some manufacturers use the same designations for loadings that EN1433 specifies, but they do not test or certify the grates to those standards.

Also, it sounds as though you are in the neighborhood of a 6" wide trench drain. As such, you need to choose what material to have the grates and frame made of. There is Cast Ductile iron, galvanized ductile, stainless steel, galvanized steel, bronze, and a lot of patterns to the grates as well.

The Zurn and ACO websites provide a spec with the products as you go through the choices.

A quick, dirty example would be:
Trench Drain:
Trench drain shall be designed with a minimum 0.5% built in slope and flow 1 cfs. System shall be tested and certified to carry H20 loads and/or be certified to class C standards per EN1433 top load classification. Trench drain shall be provided in pieces necessary so that field modifications shall not be necessary. Manufacturer shall provide layout drawings to ensure proper installation of trench drain. Trench drain grates shall be made of XXXXXXXXXX material with a XXXXXXXXXXX coating. XX" (side / bottom) outlets shall be provided to attach to drain system.
