My truck has a Maxon power tailgate; I've had it for a couple of weeks and it's old; more than 15 years old.
I couldn't find a manual showing the exact unit but it very close with the power pack mounted having some difference. Found it.
For those who are interested this youtube link will help understand what this thing is
This is the maintenance manual. It is the one referred to as "new style"
It is a gravity down model. Lift up and down works well.
Fold and Unfold do not work very well. Unfolding is also gravity/weight and it doesn't completely "drop". It unfolds part way and gets stops and I would have to push it to get it to drop all the way down. I could not see any mechanical problems and will leave this for now.
Folding, which is basically pulling up the ramp is done with a small single acting cylinder. With it completely unfolded it can not fold it, not even an inch. But if I jack it up about a foot and partly fold it then it would do the rest of the work hydraulically.
It is a very old unit and I am interested in how much the basic stuff affects the operation. For example:
-Filter, could and old clogged filter affect the operation as described and if yes, why does it not affect the lifting which involves two larger cylinder and the same motor and pump; different port of course.
-Quality for the fluid?
