True Shading Editor

Is there a way to add more materials and finishes to the True Shading Editor (Global and Object Specific Materials )?

Not in 'True Shading' which is fast graphics hardware enabled display environment where you can make quick changes to the 'color' of your model, either globally or on a face/body basis.

However, if you're looking for more colors as well as the ability to edit each color that has been assigned to your model, you need to use the simple 'Studio' mode (but be sure to first turn off 'True Shading' before you start assigned materials and textures to your model since these are two different display modes). You can find Studio mode as one of the standard Rendering Styles on the MB3 display pop-up or on the Rendering Style drop-down icon on the View toolbar. Once in this mode you go over to the Resource Bar and there will be a tab titled 'System Maerials' where you will find several sets of pre-defined colors. Just select a color and drag it onto the your model (either the entire body or you can assign to a face). Once you do that and open the Material Editor and additional tab will automatically be added the resource bar where a COPY of this material file will be selectable. What you can then is edit that particular material item, changing its name, color, material characteristic (such as saying it's a plastic versus metal or whatever), etc. Once edited it will only effect that part file. You can copy and paste these materials so that you can start with something, edit it, make a copy and edit the copy if you want something slightly different.

Anyway, that should get you started.
