We've switched from glycerin as a food supplement for wastewater bugs to natural BOD by adjustments to our primary settling basins. TTHMs in our effluent have spiked to over 100ppb and are regulated for aquifer recharge and direct potable reuse. Could it be that natural BOD has much more TTHM potential vs. glycerin. I don't think chlorine reacts with glycerin to form THMs...may form chlorhydrins. Chlorine reacting with natural BOD as opposed to glycerin may be the cause of our TTHM problem?
