I have been tasked with designing a mono-pole structure. The base tube is approximately 1000 mm DIA. and 13 mm plate. I am wondering if anyone has any good references for the design. I have modeled the structure and feel confident with the loading. I’m looking for references on the capacity of thin-walled plates.

I have downloaded the attached document, thanks a lot. I also have the ASCE 10-15 standard.

I have one final question, the contractor wishes to use ASTM A252 grade 3 pipe for the poles (it's locally available, Fy=310 mPa, Fu=455 mPa). This grade of material is not specifically mentioned in ASCE 10-15 as an approved material, would this change the references you provided?

It wouldn't change the references as I know of no A252 specific design guide for monopoles. Rather, I'd use the industry specific references to parse out the important characteristics of the approved steels and endure that those same characteristics are provided by the piling steel. Things like durability, ductility, weldability, surface aesthetics, and fatigue resistance.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.
