Good Morning,

I'm currently specifying some plug valves for HF service. I noticed that the model is Tuffline and after doing some researches I'm still not clear about what the tuffline is/means/do.

Do anyone have experience with this model of plug valves?/Can anyone give me some explanations of the way this kind of valves perform?

Tufline is just a trademarked name. It is just a plug valve and other manufacturers offer same/similar valves.

So Tufline is a model of XOMOX plug Valve.

Is there any significative diference in the performance of this plug valves compare to other models?

Read their (and their competitors) technical literature and make a decision.

If it were me, I would consider price, class/criticality of service, and manufacturer and decide from there. There are plenty of quality manufacturers that make plug valves, specify what you are comfortable is the right one.

I will say that HF service is one place where I never look at the price, all that I want is the best performance. I hate working with HF.

Yes, in this case im looking for perfonmance.

The fact is that Tufline XOMOX plug valves have been used in this Refinery for over 30years. I just wanted to know if there's something in their perfomance that make them special for that service.

The Tuffline valve is a sleeved plug valve. Advantages include:

Total sealing between valve body and plug is obtained by means of the sleeve. No stuffing box is present. The plug is totally encircled by the sleeve. Particles of solid matter and crystallizing product are not a problems, because the matter will not stick to the sleeve. During operation there is little chance of damaging occurring at the sleeve (even not after a long stationary period). No body cavity is present with a plug valve. When in the open position, sealing surfaces are totally covered by the sleeve. The stem seal is adjustable during operation. Low turning friction, which means long durability of the sleeve. Low turning torque increase during operation, even by crystallizing and sedimentary products. Blocking of the plug is impossible. Maintenance free. Tight shut off.

Thank you bimr for that good explanation.

And thank you all for your answers they really helped me.
