Which type of compressor would be the best, in terms of minimum power usage, to use in the Heating / Cooling Refrigeration loop of Ground Source Heat Pump ?

Centrifugal compressors are the most efficient in work energy per ton.

Your next best bet, would be a scroll compressor in the refrigeration loop.
B.E.

You are judged not by what you know, but by what you can do.

Thanks guys for your replies. Actually I am evaluating whether a residential sized solar array can be sized for the GSHP ( heating capacity about 15 - 20 KW ). The key is to get the pumps and compressors in the GSHP circuitry highly efficient and less power consuming. Appreciating more feedback.

For such small system your best bet would be a hermetically sealed compressor.
