Dear All,
I need some information on type of starter and rating(kW or hp) for each starter. Is there any book i can refer too or website said about type of starter used for how many kW. Is there any regulation for it?Eg : DOL can be used for <5kW motor. A/T for > 15kW.

I may be wrong, but I think you'd get a better response from the Electric Motor forum...

It's quite busy in there!

Your question is much to general to be answered in a forum like this. The answers are not nearly as simple as you are assuming. You need to review basics of motor starting first.

Check website for any major electrical equipment supplier.

One major large user of pumps and drives only consider soft starters for 75 hp and above, below that it is DOL.

The type of starter is decided based on the power system capacity and the type of load. There is no general rule

Like most, I feel this is a board question; however, if you are just looking for a very rough chart that has both motor starters and HP rating, I suggest that you contact a local rep of either Square D, Cutler-Hammer, or Allen-Bradley. If you get a MCC sizing booklet, they typically have motor starter/HP comparation charts in them. Just be aware that it is a not a complete list, just one to get you startered.
