Typical framing species used in the Phoenix area circa 1985?

Hi Guys,
Doing some analysis for an internal client on a one-family house they are working on in the great southwest. They're replacing the roof with a concrete composite and we are verifying the integrity for the added load.

We have a good set of drawings which appear to be from 1985-1987. The house is engineered very tight and unfortunately the structural notes are sparse.

What could I expect was used as typical framing lumber in that area, in that timeframe?

Probably DF-L #2 for 2x and 4x beams and headers, DF-L #1 for any 6x lumber.

If DF-L was spec'd for studs, the framer probably used Hem-Fir instead. Stud Grade for 2x4 up to 8'-1"; #2 for taller than 8'-1". Stud Grade for 2x6 up to 10'-1", #2 for taller than 10'-1".

Thanks. I assume that is inland DFL and not Coastal/DFL (North)?

Also, someone from our office seems to have borrowed our '86 NDS. You wouldn't happen to have Fb on hand for old-growth?

Personally, to be conservative, unless you specifically know that it is DF, I would assume HF values for all the framing members.

I have no idea what it is (or could be) and what's common out there. I'm situated in NY, and everything out here -- old and new -- is DFL / DFL(N). Wasn't sure if this was HF, I also wondered if it could be some Western species.

If the plan was engineered, it was probably DF-L (not North).
If the plan wasn't engineered, it could even had been Western White Woods, then you would probably see everything overstressed with your remodel.

Or doug fir south which, I believe, came out of New Mexico.....
