Can anyone elaborate this clause of UCS-56
"Above 800°F (425°C), the rate78 of heating shall
be not more than 400°F/hr (222°C/h) divided by the
maximum metal thickness of the shell or head plate in
inches"

What does it mean by "divided by the
maximum metal thickness of the shell or head plate in
inches"
here. Does it mean that the variation in temperature should not be more than 222 deg C per inch of length??

In other words....any thickness over 1" will have a reduced rate of heating. If thickness is 1" or less rate of heating = 400F.
Ex1: 1.25" thk. = 400/1.25 = 320F max rate of heating.
Ex2: .500" thk. = 400F max rate of heating.
