UG slow down, sketcher?

I am having a hell of a time right now with UG pulling exceedingly slow. I have checked it on two different computers, checked the memory, hard drive space, CPU usage all are within good ranges. The files have been moved to my local so net work shouldn't be a problem. Both computers while doing the same processes are incredibly slow.

I am trying to create multiple squares, folowing a curved spline, which I am then sweeping back. squares are 10x10 and there are about 43 on the first layer 42 on the second and so forth, max of four layers.

I was doing this in a sketch because constraints are the easiest way I could think of to ensure that the squares had their flats against the curved splines, but UG is just dragging.

Thinking this could be due to the 3d nature of the process and being under a time constraint I tried to fake it by creating the sketch in the 2D drawing. Again UG is dragging so much so that it takes forever to get anything done.

Has anyone run into an issue like this? Is it because there are too many elements in the sketching system? Could it be something else that I haven't thought of? Hell is there a more efficient way to get this done?

Are you using Pattern Curve to create the 10 x 10 multiple squares inside your sketch? Note that if there is no need to actually have an associative relationshiip between the replicated squares they can be created with BOTH 'Auto Dimensions' and 'Inferred Constraints' toggled OFF. This can improve performance significantly.

I wasn't using the Pattern, wasn't aware of it, will check it out.

I was actually setting constraints. Copying the square and then setting point on line constraint. Used a line connecting the opposite corners with an equal length and setting it as a reference line.

Auto dimensioning is on, but due to the constraints there weren't many and those that came up quickly disappeared as the constraints were set. Sketches were completely constrained.
 
I like the Pattern feature, but it doesn't work with a spline, only with a line or arc.

Luckily I can make it work. but I would like to know what is causing the slow down.

I did also check my machine, and the other one for viruses or malware, and they came up clean.

I do think it is a UG problem, but not sure how to avoid it in the future
 
In my experience constraining multiple entities(~100 entities with three constraints each) to a spline in NX sketch environment can cause significant slowdowns. In your case you could use instance along path if I am understanding what you are trying to do correctly. I have attached an example NX7.5 prt file that constraints squares to a spline curve.

I can't show an image unfortunately, but these blocks need to follow the curve of the spline on a datum, then each is swept along its own guide.

The only problem with the pattern feature John mentioned is it does not follow a spline only working on a line or arc, so I am going to see if maybe I can put a ticket or the line in to add that feature.

We will see how that goes.
 
If you could upgrade to at least NX 8.0 you could create just a single 'block' and then use the new 'Pattern Feature' to replicate it along your Spline.

oooo, we have access to 8 but i have been to busy to check it out and possibly start installing it here.

Reason to definitely prioritize it.
