I used to be able to import a step214 file, and it would create lightweight reference sets in all the files, components AND assemblies.

Now, with UG version 5.0.4.1 it no longer creates lightweight ref sets in the assemblies.

Was this turned off somehow, and how do I turn it back on?
(Yes, in customer defaults I have the lightweight ref set named to "FACET".)

Thanks!

NX-5.0.6.1 I can tell you works just fine. No reason not to take that upgrade that I know of, and having done so I couldn't verify that there was any problem back at the version you're using.

Well, I tried again today... still no luck. Only the components end up with facet ref sets. :-(

I don't know when we are going to get 5.0.6.1.

Are you saying that you ALSO wish to have your Assembly be faceted? Is not having the Components faceted sufficient for your needs?

I say this because if and when we are asked, we generally recommend a) that you NOT create any Reference Sets at the assembly level, and b) that you also NOT create faceted bodies at the assembly level.

For clarity No version of NX to my knowledge ever independently created faceted bodies at assembly level. I would be surprised to hear that it did?

NX-5.0.6.1 created the faceted bodies in the components when you open step assemblies interactively using NX. I don't know about the menu based version. I'm pretty sure that you only have to download and run the upgrade batch script to install the later maintenance release. It really shouldn't be something you need be so concerned about as to put off.

Okay, so I think what you are saying is that I need to open up the "entire part" at the sub-assembly levels, so that I can open up the "facet" at the component level.

Yep, that'll work!

Thanks!!!

Also you can set you load options to prefer faceted over solid bodies before opening large assemblies so that you save time. For best effect then turn ON partial loading so that you'll save memory as well.
