Probably easiest to simply contact UL and tell them you want to start selling your products in the Chinese market (for a while until they just knock you off ) and let UL tell you what needs to be done..
Yes, the equivalent code in China is CCC, a mandatory certification here. Or I should say more in details:
The one and only official organizor for certification is CQC, China Quality Cerfitication center. There are two marks related to product safety. One is CCC and the other is CQC. Like many other IEC-based nations, China also issues a mandatory list, once your product is on the list, and if you want to sell your product in China, you have to apply CCC mark for your product.
In other cases, ie when your product is not on the list, then you can choose to apply for CQC mark or not. It is your option whether to get CQC mark. However, if your product is under a specific CQC standard, such as GB 4706.1 (not those with GB/T), equivalent to IEC 60335-1, when your product is being sold in China, with or without a CCC or CQC mark, it got to be compliant with the relevant requirements set forth in GB 4706 and its specific part two, like 4706.15 - the numeric after the "." varies upon the generic type of your product.
For example, household air cleaner is not on the list, and you can choose not to appply for CQC mark. But you have to makre sure it meets all requirements invloved in standards with prefix GB (not GB/T). The whole concerns is about safety, EMC and poisoneous gas generated (in GB 4706).. CQC group have reqular sampling inspection in the market, and when the tests fail, that means fine, and correction and withdraw of the products from the market.
So if you want to check out whether your product needs to have CCC/CQC mark, you can follow these rules:
1. check out the mandatory list in China up to date. If yes, CCC mark is must.
2. When not on the list, find out whether all standards relevant are GB, or GB/T... For those with prefix GB/T they are recommended standards which means the nation encourages the MFG to produce products in the desired direction. But for those with prefix GB, it means you need to make sure they meet the requirements, even though you don't have to apply CQC mark for that. In most cases, there are quite a few standards for a single product type. For air cleaner, as I know, there are maybe 7~8 standards. Only GB 4706.1 and 4706.XX are actually "mandatory" - the mark is not mandatory, but the product needs to meet the requirements.
For EMC, there should be another standard in the same situation. I am not sure.. Not in the job for long and will quit and move to a new job.
For CCC/CQC mark application out of China, it's recommended to get CCC/CQC mark thru CB scheme. Otherwise, apart from UL recognized plastic, sleeving, internal AWM, PCB, glue, etc, critical components are expected to have CQC marks. In that case, you would have to purcahse those components in China. If your product is actually produced in China, then you may directly apply for CCC/CQC mark from CQC (the official subsititue). They are slow and kind of bureaucracy. Apply thru a 3rd lab is another option, but be careful that some 3rd party labs are not really helpful even though you get the marks in the end. Sometimes, the reports are not actually reliable - and the faults may be found in annual inspection by CQC which means trouble arises...
And the last, UL CB report is not that useful. I am not sure if it is accepted by CQC or not, but in a program I am working on now, UL CB is not accepted by BSMI (Taiwan certification) - they accept only CB reports or certificates from TUV, VDE, ENEC, etc...
