I have been asked to mould a replacement part that is used in a UV sterilizing plant. The part holds a rubber wiper that cleans the glass UV tube. The part is about 15 mm from the tube so it's getting a really good dose of UV!
The part supplied is made from some kind of fibreglass filled Thermoset. I don't mould thermosets, so I would like to use a thermoplastic. PVC and PBT have been suggested, but I wonder what is being used in the existing systems?

Can you give us a hint of some other requirements. Acrylic is the best thermoplastic to UV. PET and PBT are both quite good. Nylon is also fairly good and improves a lot with stabilisers. Glass reinforcement also improves nylons and polyesters a lot. Pigments that are opaque to UV help all plastics but only protect the matrix not the surface.

The part is basically just a carrier, so there isn't much force involved. Room temperature, black(so this would add some stability,no chemicals involved really. It just sits in the wastewater discharge from a sewerage treatment plant and cleans the UV emitting tubes sterilizing the water.
I am told that the UV emitted is UV(c) not the usual A and B, I don't know if this has any effect.
I was just thrown by the fact that the original suppliet had used a fancy thermoset.

Can you copy my reply to the thread and red flag the the two of your triple posts that are in this forum.

There are very good reasons for double posting being against forum rules.
