Ultrasonic distance measuring in body

Hi

Does anybody know what kind of errors might occur if you use a ultrasonic distance measuring sensor inside the body?

Especially in laparoscopic surgery (CO2-gas)

Mainly does the tissue absorb the waves or something like that or directly reflect it when hitting the surface?
