Hello All,

I would like to ask about disadvantages of using ultrasonic flow meters for househeld connections in hot climate.
application: domestic water
Water pressure: 30 psi
water source: desalinated water
meter location: outside of buildings and fixed in plastic box in the wall.

The problem that my country temperature in summer monthes is 40-50 C degree, the plastic box will keep higher temrature around the meter higher than atmospheric temprature.
I heared that hot weather affects meter battery and LCD screen, also I heared that to use these type of meters water should be clear and does not contain any solids.

I know that ultrasonic meters accuracy is better than mechanical meters or mag meters

I would like to know from our experts if ultrasonic meters will be good idea in such application?

Please find the attached for 2 different meter models.

Thanks in advance,

Baram

Seems to me you should talk directly with the manufacturer. The datasheets imply operation up to 60°C, but does not explicitly state it.

You're comparing Apples with Oranges for technologies

The SM250 spec sheet says, "Uses fluidic oscillation technology" (top, page 2). That's not ultrasonic.

I'm a doubting Thomas. I do not believe the EMS with active sensor can get a 20 year life span out of a non-replaceable lithium battery.

Sorry, I only as about the ultrasonic flow meters which is Badger meter

I have zero experience with that ultrasonic meter but I've not had good experiences with other manufacturers on accuracy. Others haven't either. On a home line, it may suit your purposes. I don't see a problem with your ambient temperature. You'll need to make sure you have enough piping to properly install whatever you pick.
