Hi,

I'm being asked to research the code requirements and design loads for an underground parking structure. I believe it will either be in New Jersey or New York.

I also believe it will be 2 stories underground, i.e. 2 floor subsurface parking deck.

I know there are tons of them on every other block in NYC and my apartment building in NJ has one too.

I've searched my PDF's of the 2009 NJ IBC and the 2012 IBC and haven't found the word underground once.

They only seem to talk about OPEN or ENCLOSED parking garages, not underground ones.

In the code it seems they assume they all are above ground.

Any info on design criteria, load requirements, or location of info in code would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Thank you,

I've read the whole section and the next few, but don't see anything about structural load requirements.

Such as horizontal load from the earth on the walls.

Also looking for some specification about the columns and beams/girders.

I confirmed the structure is in New Jersey.

If anyone has worked on an underground parking structure in NJ (or not) please inform me with some of the design criteria & load requirements.

Thanks
