This item says:

"All piping, except piping handling expanded foam for other than subsurface application, shall be subjected to a 2-hour hydrostatic pressure gauge test"

What does this mean: "except piping handling expanded foam for other than subsurface application"? Not sure what it's referring to but whatever application this is how should it be pressure tested? Does that mean it's exempt?

It means for any other pipe that does not carry expanded foam, that means non-dry pipe such as plain water, water with a percentage of foam concentrate (non unexpanded) etc, with the exexption of piping for subsurface applicaion. That means for subsurface application a hydrostatic test is still required because it is not a dry pipe.

Thank you UFT12 for the reply. What's the rationale behind not pressure testing surface foam piping?

Surface pipe for rim protection? It s a dry pipe. So what is to leak? Also during flow conditions, the expanded foam is aeriated and has diferent flow properties (densiy, viscocity) and is expected not to leak, at least not with the same rate as water.

Thanks Mate i was overthinking that one

BTW do you know where I can find standard templates that companies use to record their acceptance test results on for the various NFPA codes?
