For a steel structure built in 1917, I field measured a steel channel that is 12" deep, 5" flange width, with an average flange thickness of 1/2". Many of the other steel beams were stamped with "Jones & Laughlin". The AISC DEsign Guide 15 doesn't have channels in it.
Has anyone ever encountered a channel with such a wide flange before? Even the mighty MC18x58 only has a 4 1/4" wide flange.
