Read the paper with big grin on face. Grin disappeared when I read the concluding sentences: "Perpetual motion machines have mechanical features different from those familiar and useful machines. The inventor hopes that such novelties of design may produce novel results. But the result is usually failure"

Shouldn't it have been "But the result is invariably failure"?

Not necessarily. There may still be novel results, even if they are not the desired results ;)

Gunnar,

I think your word should be "inevitably" instead of "invariably."
