What is the best way to upgrade Catia V5 R15 to V5 R16 when CatiA sends full version of R16? I also don't have enough room to install R16 alongside R15. I also want to keep my CAT Settings. Is this in any of my documentation CD's that come with the install CD's?

Well after getting rid of some unneccessary software and my documentation, i was able to install V5R16. Now how do I get the same settings setup in V5R16 as I had in V5R15? CAn I just copy CATSETTINGS folder from V5R15 to V5R16? Then after that i would like the Documentation back. I don't have the space for R15,R16 and The English documentation to be on at the same time. Not to mention having extra room for anything else. Do I need R15 installed after getting the settings setup correctly? If I remove R15 will that affect the nodelock key since i didn't manually import it when installing V5R16? is the .lic file considered a shared file?

We have found that it is generally not a good idea to use your CATSettings files between versions. We usually will sit with both versions side by side and go thru each setting on the options page. Yes, it's a pain, but it is generally safer. It is also a good way to see what settings are new, and to verify that your settings are really what you want.

The nodelock should be OK, but don't take my word for it - make sure you back up your nodelock file in your iFor directory.

When I do a search for "iFor" i come up with nothing. Is it a specific directory or can i back up nodelock file somewhere else?

if it is windows the default location for the NODELOCK file is
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ibm\LUM

Yes, the iFor is a LUM directory. You won't see it unless LUM is installed.

Do NOT EVER use CATSettings between versions. I made this mistake a couple years back, and I had big problems. It actually rendered many functions unuseable in the environment which I imported it into.

Make sure that you install your R16 into a separate envrionment, and that your CATSettings for R16 get their own folder, or they will overwrite the R15 CATSettings (with the default) the first time you open it. I never use the default path that is suggested upon installation.
