Usable Power from Battery Pack Phone Case?

I need to utilize the power from a iPhone battery pack case. I purchased a couple cases and took them apart in the hopes that it would become clear when I saw the batteries and circuit board.... unfortunately that is not the case. The battery pack (already charged) attach to the phone and sit idle until needed. When the phone battery is low you push the power button on the case and it charges the phone. I would like to be able to use some of the case battery for an auxiliary component. I would like to be able to splice into the circuit board somehow so I can use the intelligence of the board and write an app for the phone to manage the the auxiliary component.

I'm sure at the end of the day I will need to hire an electrical engineer to create a proper custom board for my application but I would like to prove it out first.

Can anyone offer any suggestions or point me in the right direction to figure out what the existing circuit board is doing?

Since the previous thread, I've been using an On The Go (OTG) USB cable with my Android tablet to connect and power a DVB-T Tuner dongle. The OTG cable has the extra pin connected to inform the tablet to act as host.

It sounds like you're looking for some similar "OTG" technology for an iPhone.

Old 30-pin iPhone connector, or the new iPhone 5 "Lightning" connector?

You're correct, this does relate to the 1st post. Sorry, I was thinking the original post was only about getting power from the phone itself. I re-read it and realized that it did discuss the case battery. I think this means I'm getting old...

I'll need to look into OTG cables to better understand what they do.

I will be making the same case and component for the iPhone 4 and 5 and also the Samsung Galaxies.

I think so you should go with OTG as it is the best option to have for your iPhone.
