Dear Members,

I would like to know if I can use fitting material of SA-815 WPS UNS 37250 for an ASME Sec.VIII Div.1 vessel. The complete vessel is of UNS 32750 with different ASME specifications. Is it true that I cannot use this material if this is not listed in the UHA-23 table of ASME Sec.VIII Div.1.

Thanks & Regards

Generally, materials for VIII-1 need to be listed in ASME sect. II.
Additionally, UHA-11 reads
MATERIALS
UHA-11 GENERAL

a) All materials subject to stress due to pressure shall
conform to one of the specifications given in Section II,
and shall be limited to those listed in Table UHA-23 except
as otherwise provided in (b) and UG-4.

ASME SA815 UNS S32750 is neither listed in sect II, or table UHA-23.

You could check for code cases, as 32760 (allowed) and 32750 have a very close chemistry if Im not mistaken.

ASME SA815 WPS UNS S32750 is listed in SEC-II as "WPS32750 CRS32750 S32750". I have read the above and my interpretation is it tell " confirm to one of the specification" ie SA-815 and this is listed it does not limits the grade.

In Sec II, Part D, Table 1A (2013) I see listed SA-815 S32760, permitted for Sec VIII, Div 1 to 600 F. Do not see any "WPS32750 CRS32750 S32750".

Mike

All well and good, but listing in Sec II, Part A or Part B does not imply a particular material is permitted for a particular Code Section. Part D shows which are permitted, max temps, allowables at temps, etc.

Mike

SnTMan is right. II-D, plus UHA-23 for VIII-1 work, defines the limits from which you have to 'pick' your materials.
Make sure the materials ASME SA/-B rather than ASTM A/B.

Dear Members,

This material is already used. What could be the possible remedy. The code to which the vessel is designed is VIII-Div-1 2010 Add2011. And in that this material is not specified. The addition was done in 2013 for S32760.

Thanks and Regards

Can 'O Worms. See UG-10. Consult AI. Consult owner / user. Negotiate a solution meeting UG-10 and concerns of all parties, potentially including replacing the non-conforming part.
