Using a 200kW VSD to control a 250kW motor 2

I have a 250kW motor connected to a process. The process will only use about 180kW absorbed power. I have a 200kW Variable Speed Drive which I want use to control this motor. Can I successfully pull this off. If so what of the various motor data that is needed by the VSD will I have to alter for this to work properly? The VSD is a UMV3301 from Leroy Somer.

pirates, more than likely you can pull this off with good success. The way to figure out where you stand is not by hp or kw but by amps.

Try to determine what the motor amps will be for continuous operation under load. Also, try to determine what short term motor amps need to be for speed changes, quick upset conditions in your process if any, and anything else that would require short term bursts of torque and current.

Armed with the motor current requirements for continuous and short term operations, compare them to the continuous and short term output capacities of the drive. You are good to go if both types are covered by the drive. If you have enough continuous current but not enough short term current, you might still be ok if you can modify process conditions like accel time and decel time.
