Using cooling degree days to estimate energy consumption

I need to do a very simplistic and basic estimation of energy consumption of a new air conditioning system compared to a previous system.

Is it possible to use Cooling degree day information to estimate how much and how often the unit will be running?

basically without factoring in any other variables such as infiltration, internal heat gain, radiation etc, I realize this will not be an accurate method but it doesn't have to be, i just need a ball park figure, having only the following factors to work with : average operating power, and BTUh of the units, room design temperature (t-stat setting), cooling degree day information for my location, average $ per kWh,
how can I use that data to approximate energy consumption for a period of 5 months of operation (May-Sept)?

Thank you

hmm that's what I figured.. no shortcuts. well i do have an estimated cooling load which is about 192,000 btu/h
