Using projected sketch for cut-thicken

I'm trying make a cut by using these steps:

1. Project a Split Line of your sketch onto the surface (Insert, Curve, Split Line… Projection)
2. Offset (Copy) the Split Faces a depth of zero (Insert, Surface, Offset…)
3. Cut-Thicken the offset (Insert, Cut, Thicken…)



unfortunately this isn't working: failed to thicken a surface and cut from workpiece. What am i doing wrong?

Make the zero-offset surface first, then trim the surface with the sketch, then thicken.
 
But the zero-offset surface is already a single surface in the right contour? (the contour of the sketch..)
 
Does the thickness of the cut reduce any radius to zero or less?

Can you thicken the surface (in either direction) by a smaller amount?
 
i checked the minimum radius of curvature for the original faces: 4,99 mm. I want to make a 0.5 mm pocket so this should be no problem. (when i try to make a 0.0001 mm pocket this isn't working as well....)

I tried to only thicken the surface (no cut-thicken) this isn't working....
 
You failed to notice that I said nothing about a split line. Don't do the split line. Copy the faces, then trim the surface, then thicken. The split line only compicates things for the parasolid kernel.
 
Sorry about that. I tried it but i get the same error: failed to thicken a surface and cut from workpiece
 
Have you tried offsetting the surface the depth of your pocket without using the thicken command? If that works then just delete the original face and fill in the sides of the pocket. Alternatively, you could extrude a solid body with the proper outside dimensions (with the merge option unchecked) then combine/subtract the result.

I forgot to metion that the cut is in a SOLID not a surface... So i am trying to make a pocket in a solid using a thicken-cut.
 
My second method was for a solid modeling approach. Besides, there is almost no difference between working with surfaces and working in solids. You can turn a solid into a surface by simply deleting a face.

Offset the surfaces inward to the depth of the recess required.
Use the sketch (which was to create the Split Line) to extrude a cut Up To Surface using the offset surface.
