UW-9(2) Butt welding of components to thickened nozzle necks

I have a weld neck flange that will need to butt weld to a nozzle that is thicker. I am simply trying to determine the required and simplest method of making the transition. UW-9(2) and Figure UW-9-2 states that "The cl of the butt weld attaching a component(flange)to a thickened neck nozzle that has an taper transition angle less than 71.5 deg shall be located a min of 1.5*tn from the taper." If I turn the nozzle back 1.5*tn from the cl of the butt weld, then machine a 30deg taper angle, is this allowed? The reason that the nozzle is thicker is due to reinforcement. I wouldn't want to make the taper larger than 30deg since this would cut into the limits of reinforcement and require a longer nozzle. 30deg is less than 71.5deg. Am I interpreting this correctly? It would look exactly like Figure UW-9-2 with a 30deg transition angle.

10mm, it looks to me like your proposal would meet the Code. By my reading you can either taper 3:1 at the buttweld (this corresponds to 71.5 deg) or offset a lesser angle by 1.5tn, as you propose.

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

sNtmAN,
I'm surprised there isn't a corner radius requirement. Thank you Sir for your response.
