V13 Sketch

Is there any way of converting a V13 sketch into a later version standard such as NX4. Many thanks in advance

The best way that I can think of since this comes up so rarely is to roll back the tree to a point before the old sketch, copy the curves possibly to another layer for clarity and create a new sketch into which you may add the copied curves before re-constraining them. Then I'm afraid to have to go back look for the object which the sketch is parent of and replace new for old manually replace object may work on occasion.

If however you are just stuck trying to edit the older style sketch there is a function to support editing pre-V13 sketches. The command finder ought to help you locate it.

Thanks for the response, I think that what I'm going to do is modify the code in Checkmate to ignore V13 sketches, and tell the guys to create a new template part from which to create their save as models from to stop the proliferation of these dodgy CAD models. We already have some 1500 released parts, so fixing these is just not feasible. Have a nice weekend.

Yes I think you're probably right there. If they were just in old part family fasteners then you might have a chance of getting rid of them I've struck that before and by nature it may be less work to fix than it seems, but otherwise it would be tough to do.

There was never any serious attempt made to convert the pre-V13 sketches to the new architecture since the solvers were totally different and incompatible with each other. The number of exceptions would have been so high that for all-intents-and-purposes the 'new' sketch would have been nearly worthless anyway so we never even considered it since it was felt that a conversion routine which worked less than 50% of the time would be worse than none at all. Besides, this would probably burden us for years with trying to make it better and even our best estimates were that achieving even 75% would have been a miracle and we knew even that would be seen as unacceptable, so to eliminate frustration on BOTH sides of the equation, we decided to go the route that we did. Basically that was to assure that the old-style sketches would still properly update (note that my 'favorite' demo model was built using pre-V13 sketches and it's still just as usable today as it was back in 1993 when most of the detailed parts in the assembly were created) but to NO longer allow you to create any 'new' old-style sketches and give you only limited tools to edit them. This way you had no choice but to move forward creating proper sketchs, which in the end would probably take less time than it would have been needed to fix a partially converted sketch in the first place.
