V5 Sketcher Arch Angles

Why does it seem so complicated to prescribe an arch angle for an arch? It's disappointing that an arch only has the same definition dialog as a circle. Usually I end up trimming the arch to a line somewhere, but I sure would rather prescribe an arch angle instead.

I'm assuming first that you mean an "arc?"

Where are you trying to create it? In the GSD workbench, or sketcher?

Yes... Sorry, an arc, not an arch! I am using sketcher and the Part Design workbench.

If you have the "sketch tools" toolbar turned on, you will be able to define everything numerically, on the fly. It will allow you to input the radius, an X and a Y coordinate, as well as start and end angles.

The fields become available when you initialize the "arc" function.

I suppose that is true, but I really dislike using the sketch tools toolbar because even the slightest twitch of the mouse throws all my values off. It would be fine if I could acknowledge the input fields without clicking on the mouse... That whole click with the mouse without moving it deal is what gets me. I guess I'm just too jumpy for such a manuever.

You just need to learn to play it right.

Start a function - how about arc? Select your start point by highlighting the contents in the Arc center H or V field in the sketch tools, and before you start typing anything, just put the mouse in your workspace. Put the cursor somehwere, (if the value you are typing is direction dependent - like an offset - place the cursor on the appropriate side of the geometry) and TAKE YOUR HAND OFF THE MOUSE!

Then, just type, and hit enter, or hit the tab key to move to the next field. You can also hit shift+tab to move backwards in the fields.

It's quite simple really, and you are robbing yourself, if you don't use the sketch tools toolbar.
