hi all

i want to ask about the stripping steam in vacuum column

what will be the problem if the bottom level of the column increased and the inlet steam will go under the level?

thanks

It seems a dangerous condition for subject tower's internals especially due to

1)agitation in stripping section,

2)very high expansion ratios exist in vacuum if somewhat wet/ saturated stripping steam is employed, even accidentally!

High turbulence, possible entrainment, difficult liquid level control, false liquid level signal, flooding, etc.
One suggestion: read chapter 13.2 (Liquid level in columns) in the book by Henry Z. Kister: Distillation -Operation- McGraw-Hill

thank u both 786392 and 25362

i want to ask you Mr.25362 about the book is it available as e-book? and thanks again

I'm afraid not yet. It is offered for sale via the Internet.

Same is the case with authors; if such a thing is somehow missed or inaccurately reffered/ quoted!

what about the temperature of the stripping steam is there maximum T for the steam let say 20 psig steam? and why there is such thing?

Dear Hello/Good Evening,

I have not come across any such high temperature limit; other learned forum colleagues may enlighten on the subject.

However I've seen temperature(s) 645 +/- 20 degrees F for 35 psig stripping stream coming out after heat recovery from Fired Heater flue gases stream; while at previous employer's refining complex.

Hope this helps.
