I need a cylindrical vessel about 700 mm dia and 1200 mm long that will withstand full vacuum. I am planning on making one out of 20 mm thick plate as per the attached drawing.

Will this design withstand full vacuum ?

Just be carefull about the use of the seal/gasket. In case the vacuum applied with cycles, the type of the seal/gasket has to be suitable to take the forces during the cycles adequately although the seal/gasket can provide the sealing under static vacuum.
This may effect the flange connection as well by depending on the seal/gasket type to be used. If you have cyclic proces you need to contact your seal/gasket supplier to check its suitability.

Hope it helps

Thanks Ibrahim. I will keep it mind. My cycle is going to be pretty short. Initially anyway.

The vacuum held pretty good overnight. Now to do the real job.

Final update. The vacuum vessel was put into the intended use (impregnation of transformer windings) and it worked just fine. So far six cycles and no problems.

Thanks once again for your valuable tips.
