Vacuum pump contamination

Greetings,

We have a vacuum drying process which in which a slurry is dried in a reactor to a powder. The problem is that aerosols/dust (sized <10 micron) during the drying go past the filters on the reactor and into the vacuum pump system, leaving a tar like substance that requires a lot of maintenance on the vacuum system to get rid of.

Been looking into a solution that could protect the pump equipment from this dust but have had no luck due to limited space in the facility to install large equipment on the inlet pipe.

I have limited knowledge on systems/processes like this and thus wondering if anyone here have any ideas how to tackle this problem or have experience from something similar.

Thanks

Hi ,
Check for spray condenser or contact condenser to clean your stream prior to reach the pump.
A search with your favorite search engine should help you , key words : spray condenser or contact condenser.
Note : a ring vacuum pump should do the job , with flush of the liquid ( partial or total)

And look at your existing filters since they don't work.
Are they cooled?
See what can be done to upgrade there also.
but LR pumps are the way to go with dirty processes.
Just remember that the water has to be clean and cold for them to work.
