Hi,

i am looking for a spiral wound gasket or an alternative gasket to seal a valve body joint, pressure class 2500.
Problem with spiral wound gaskets e.g. "Flexitallic" or others are all limited to around 6000psi (420bar) which is the CL2500 operating Rating at ambient temp.
BUT you need to test the vale in Advance up to 1,5x nominal pressure which is around 9000psi (630bar) .
We had leakage in the past here.

Or does anybody know an inexpensive alternative sealing option?

Conditions:

up to 9000 psi (630bar) at ambient temp.
up to 840°F (450°C) op. temp. according CL2500 Rating

Thanks!

You're targeting the gasket but do you have sufficient clamp load to withstand 9000 psi? The 6000 psi rating provided by Flexitallic must be very conservative.

Above 10,000 psi all metal seals are standard.

As an alternative to spiral wound gaskets consider kammprofile such as Thermiculite 845.

Both the spiral wound and kammprofile gaskets are available in CL2500 ratings.

1. Class 2500 usually comes with ring type joint gaskets, ASME B16.20.
2. What do you mean valve body joint? If it is for the bonnet-body connection you should consult the manufacturer, or use the same gasket as when supplied. Dont u have spare parts?
3. Valve shall be field tested except from shop tested? MFR was aware of that?
4. Usually valves are exempted from hydrotest of the piping systems.
5. Valve type - Ball, gate? Size? Design code? Material?

if you are stuck with an existing valve, try flexitallic change gasket or cam profile if you are running into problem. it should really be RTJ joint.

2. At a two piece split Body i mean the gasket between both Bodys. And of Course the gasket between Body and bonnet
3. the 1,5 x Rating is for shop testing only
5. Ball Valve acc. ASME B16.34 + API 6D. Size 8in CL2500 Trunnion mounted, A350 Gr. LF2 material
