In ASTM B16.34, the section for valve marking has identification markings, section 4.2, and identification plate, section 4.3. The way it is worded, it sounds like both are required, but it seems like one or the other could be used. Does anyone have some good insight on this? Thanks.

Markings detailed in sections 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 (all of Section 4) are all required to be in compliance with B16.34. Many of these markings are already required by other standards like MSS SP 25 and the ASTM material specs.

I agree with reverman, both the body marking in 4.2 and the nameplate marking in 4.3 are mandatory (as well as all of section 4).
