hi,
i just entered this forum and maybe I'm asking question that was asked before, if so please tell where to find the answer, if not please help if you can.

how to make part in assembly design which will have one ore more variable dimensions.
If I have two parts with X distance between them and one part (pipe) with length Y connecting them, how to make connection between X distance of elements and Y length of pipe (since pipe is connecting two elements X should be equal to Y, X=Y), so when in assembly design I change X to Z, Y is automatically set to Z, again since pipe is connecting two elements.

Thanks
Jugoslav

Strange question, if you constrain the two parts on assembly level to the ends of the pipe they will move when the pipe length is altered. That would be the easy way to do it, you can also use parameters, create a parameter on the assembly level of length type and then connect the parameter in pipe part to the parameter on assembly level. This will give possibility to change the length of the pipe on assembly level without activating pipe part to change it.

Thanks Azrael,

I solved it with parameters.
Constrains in assembly level didn't work, that's why i posted this question.

Should work on assembly level also, do you use auto update on assembly level? Or do you have the two parts in a subassembly? if so then you need to set it to flexible.

You might want to look into Relational Design for this. Search the forum for the keywords Relational Design and Skeleton Modeling

thanks Azrael & catiajim,

I tried to find something about Relational Design and Skeleton Modeling but I didn't found anything for beginners.

Anyway for now I'll use parameters and formulas.

Thanks
