Variable to RETAIN the subtracted object ?

At one time there was a variable that would allow you to retain the subtracted object when using the Boolean operation to remove material from a 3D Solid. I'm sure its here somewhere, but I can't remember it, and I can't find it in the variables list (I'm sure I'm overlooking it in my search).
