Velocity Circuit

Hi, I have a signal coming out of a potentiometer that tells the distance traveled in voltage. Is it a position transducer which outputs voltage when a cable is pulled.

My question is, how do I go about using that distance travelled to get a velocity output in voltage?
For example, 0 - 1000 rpm, output = 0-5V.

I would probably need instanteneuos velocity? Do I get that by diffentiating distance/time? Use op-amps?

The derrivative of position is velocity.

Since you are starting with an analog... it would probably be best to stay with analog... and use Op Amp(s) to get your derrivative.

Suggestion: The analog differentiator is somewhat difficult to use since it can create spikes (Dirac Impulse). The most of modeling is done without analog differentiators. E.g. visit
