Venting time calculation

Hi Everyone,
So I need to bring a tank which is in vacuum state to atmospheric pressure using Nitrogen Venting technique.
I need to know the time required for this operation, are there any formulas or any study materials that you guys could help me with?

For one, you can't vent to atmosphere from a vacuum.

Do you want to fill a completely empty tank with N2 to 1 Bar absolute pressure?

 
You need to know volume of the tank, inlet flow rate of whatever gas you are using, whether the inflow is dependent on the tank pressure or not, can you control inlet flow rate?, then it should be fairly simple, volume / flowrate at standard conditions.

Hi 1503-44 Yes, actually the tank would undergo a cycle, the first part it would be vacuumized to a pressure of .13mbar, the next part of cycle it should be brought to 1bar,and this is achieved using N2. So I have been given the task to calculate the time required to bring the tank to 1 bar.
Are there any set of variables to calculate this time,like flow rate,conductance, pipe size, and do you know any formulae regarding this.?

 
YOu can't do that unless you know the flowrate or the details about how you are going to control the inflow of gas into your tank at what ever pressure you have.

Note that 0.13mbar implies this is for all intents a pure vacuum (0.1 torr). That's very low. It's going to take a lot longer to get to that pressure than it is to fill the tank again....

Hi LittleInch, the inflow is controlled with a pressure regulator
 
Then the regulator will most likely be full open until pressure in the tank gets very close to the regulator's set pressure. I would assume that the flow rate into the tank will be limited to the maximum flow rate through the open regulator.

The regulator will be your limiting factor as mr 44 says.

Find out what flowrate it can do when fully open in scf/hr or scm/hr.

If the regulator is a forward sensing regulator set at 1barg, then, during N2 fill step, it will go wide open till such time when tank pressure is close to 1barg. Can your N2 supply cope (upstream of the regulator) with such flow? How much can this supply line deliver, and what is the max capacity of the regulator during critical flow - have you checked and compared ? Are there any throttle valves in the supply line, and is there a requirement to maintain a minimum pressure on this supply line-are there any other users other than this tank ? You havent said much so far.
