When is it necessary (or preferable) to vent metal deck? Does this affect the strength of the concrete? If I have an unvented metal deck with concrete fill and a waterproof sealant, will this be a problem?

Can you provide more information? Are you talking about vented or acoustical decking for noise suppression?

I am working on a pedestrian bridge which has an exposed metal deck+concrete fill floor. The floor will be finished with a waterproof sealant. On another part of the same project (a separate enclosed building with metal deck + concrete fill and carpet on top), the engineer has decided to use vented deck in this area (I'm assuming the reasoning is to avoid moisture problems with the carpeting if water were to migrate to the top of the concrete fill), so the question came up as to whether we needed to do the same for my bridge. I was wondering if anyone knows of any problems with not providing vents in the deck and then applying a waterproof membrane that will essentislly seal in the moisture.
