Hello everyone,
we are trying to do the verification of a portable hardness tester acording to ASTM A956 Part B. "Verification of leeb hardness instruments by a standarized block method". The criterion given in 15.1 and 15.2 states that the instrument shall be considered verified if two individual impacts fall within +/- 6 HL units of the reference value. The thing is that the manufacturer of the instrument has provided a test block whose hardness is certified in HRC units. What we want to know is if it is possible to comply with this verification procedure by converting HRC units to HL units.

Best regards.

Is this a Rockwell "C" test block or a rebound tester test block. If it is a rebound tester block, the manufacturer should be able to give you the documentation you need. If it is a Rockwell "C" test block, you should not use it to verify your Leeb tester.

Redpicker is correct. When we conducted portable hardness testing using an Equotip, test blocks with HL calibration from Equotip were provided. Are you sure the test blocks are not dual certification - HL and HRC? Otherwise, the manufacturer should have them.

Thank you for your answers. Finally we found the manufacturer's documentation of the test block and the issue was solved. I appreciate your concern.

Regards,

Gonzalo.
