It is becoming popular locally to place as much oilfield equipment as possible on piles. As a result I'm seeing a lot of 400 bbl to 1000 bbl tanks designed with steel skid bases. Is anyone willing to comment on this practice? Will anyone that has encountered this before add their 2¢?
As far as I've been able to reason out;
-API 12F allows flat bottoms and is limited to a max size of 750bbl, so skid supports are reasonable using engineering principles to calculate allowable floor stresses.
-API 650 requires the floor be uniformly supported or supported by grillage by Appendix I requirements. The grillage can be skid supported.
Am I barking up the wrong tree with these design approaches.
