If you have an HSS vertical diagonal brace with an end plate/tab at the connection bolted to a gusset centered on a column/horizontal would you prefer to have brace centered on the column and horizontal or keep brace end plate tab concentric with brace allowing the brace to be eccentric by the width of the plates? I believe my preference would be latter what are you thoughts?

Why not split the difference so that the adjoining faces of tab and gusset are centered on column and brace?

I wouldn't recommend splitting the difference just because now during erection you have to have the brace on the right side of the gusset and the brace has to be the right orientation as well(perhaps not an issue if the brace can only go in one way).

I would center it on the HSS - I think there is less room for error in fabrication if you center on the HSS and offset on the beam/column instead of the other way around.
