Have a RISA-3D model / analysis of steel framed mezzanine. By going through the results, how can one tell the vertical braces (Cross type for instance) will be required between the columns?

Thanks,

you should know if the braces are required before you model your structure in RISA. otherwise why would you put them on the model in the first place?

You can always install them first, and use them as dummy members to see if the column works without them.

A few tips:
1. Make sure you have member moments released where it should be.

2. I think it's a good step to replace your fixed BCs with varying stiffness of springs just to check how moments redistribute and deflection is affected.

3. A apply a lateral load to the mezzanine of 1% D+L with pdelta turned on. More it is is a public mezzanine. More like 10%.
