For a ASME Sec VIII div 1 vertical vessel, is there any dia and height limitation, Why my concern is due to the space constraints we have a requirement of vertical vessel having 400 m3 capacity. So the vessel dimension will be 6m(dia) x 12m(height). i couldn't find any size limitation mentioned in the code, so i would like to hear from experts weather the proposed size is acceptable or please advice the size to meet the capacity requirement.

Design Code - ASME Sec VIII Div 1
Vessel Capacity - 400 m3
service - Nitrogen Gas
Design Pressure - 12 bar

I think the issue is that you hit a practical limit on thickness of plate which can be rolled without cracking or needing a lot of heat.

Ditto thickness of the head which can be made / transported.

A 6m x 12m 12 bar vessel is pretty big but not unusual.

LPG bullets can be bigger and longer than this but usual horizontal.

Vertical you will have a lot more wind/seismic load to accommodate.

You would get slightly lesser weight by reducing the diameter and increasing the length for thickness reduction, but you would have higher wind loads. May be worth the cost reduction.
 
Not sure what the application or if this is on the upstream or downstream side, but a smaller cryogenic liquid LIN tank with a vaporizer would be more efficient for space. Most liquid tanks have a MAWP of 250 psig and could regulate the gas pressure down to 180 psig (12 barg).

Not making a decision is a decision in itself
 
Shipping constraints (dimensions and weight) and crane capacity at the site should also be investigated.
Also consider that if the larger tank is feasible to construct, it may still be cheaper to build two tanks of half the capacity each.
 
The large nitrogen holder vessel adjacent to the natural gas reformer/direct reduction unit in the plant I worked at many years ago was a sphere, probably around the same radius as that required here - 6.8m, design pressure 10barg.
